‘The DIPC is very sad to learn of the death on August 2nd of Jane Carty. Jane was hugely inspired by young musicians and was deeply involved in music competitions during most of her professional career. A senior producer at RTÉ for many decades, she founded and chaired the “RTÉ Musician of the Future” Competition throughout the 1980s and 1990s. She subsequently founded the “Freemasons Young Musician of Year” Competition in Dublin.
Jane chaired the jury of the Preliminary Irish Round of the DIPC from 1988 until 2018. She also presented the finals of the 1st DIPC live on RTÉ FM3 – the precursor to RTÉ lyric fm – in 1988.
Jane Carty was also the Chair of the international jury of the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition and travelled extensively around Europe auditioning young singers for that event. She also participated each year in the media jury of the Belvedere Singing Competition.
Jane was a warm and vivacious character, full of life, character, energy, inspiration and ideas. She loved a good chat over a meal and a glass of wine and liked nothing more than to talk about the talented young musicians of the day. They really were her lifeblood and all musicians in Ireland owe her a debt of gratitude for her enthusiasm and passion. May she now Rest in Peace. We will all miss her.’
